Established in 1956 by the Rocca Family, Original Joe's Restaurant has been a cornerstone for an everchanging downtown San Jose, Ca. Famous for its large portions and homestyle Italian cooking , Original Joe's continues to serve the community with the same quality of food and service that it has for over 40 years. Original Joe's was the first San Francisco based restaurant to open in San Jose. The cuisine is still served with a traditional San Francisco flair. All sandwiches are served on sourdough french bread, and come with fresh handcut steak fries.
Original Joe's also serves over 100 entrees, encompassing eggs, omelettes, sandwiches, soups, salads, roasts, veal, chicken, fish, pasta, steaks and chops.

I remember this institution from way back when. However, when we recently dined there we were very disappointed. The food was really ordinary. The elderly waiters still wear tuxedos. Heavy Italian food, not particularly flavorful. We may have simply outgrown Original Joe's. Our memory of it was better than the current reality. Convenient to the light rail and downtown attractions. |

I stumbled upon Joe's late one night while attending a convention at the nearby convention center. Luckily, Joe's was open late, or it might have been room service for me that night. Instead, I had a memorable pasta dish that still makes my mouth water. I'm looking forward to sampling the rest of the menu next time I'm in town! |
